Richland Parish Disaster Survivors Can Get Rebuilding Tips at a Local Home Improvement Center

Baton Rouge, La. — Disaster survivors from Richland Parish who are rebuilding after the March severe storms and floods can receive a free consultation with hazard mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The mitigation representatives will be available at Home Hardware Center in Rayville from Monday, April 25 until Saturday, April 30.

The mitigation specialists can answer questions about protecting homes from future disaster-related damage, as well as offer tips and techniques to build hazard resistant homes. Most of the information and the free publications provided are geared for do-it-yourself work and general contractors.

Recovery topics to be covered include roof repair and rebuilding flooded homes.

Help Remains for Louisiana Disaster Survivors after Disaster Recovery Center Closes in Coushatta, Red River Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. – The disaster recovery centers in Homer, Leesville and Slidell will transition to U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Centers beginning Monday, April 25.

The disaster recovery centers in Homer and Slidell will remain open until 6 p.m. Friday, April 22, while the disaster recovery center in Leesville will remain open until 6 p.m. Saturday, April 23.

The new SBA centers will be located at the following addresses:

Help Remains After Quitman County Disaster Recovery Center Closes

RIDGELAND, Miss. – The state of Mississippi, local governments and certain private nonprofits in 26 Mississippi counties are now eligible to receive federal assistance to help cover expenses and repair damage associated with the severe storms and flooding that occurred March 9-29, 2016, according to state and federal officials.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency said an amendment to the disaster declaration of March 25, authorizes the Public Assistance program for Bolivar, Claiborne, Clarke, Coahoma, Covington, Forrest, Greene, Holmes, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Leake, Leflore, Lincoln, Marion, Panola, Pearl River, Perry, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, Walthall, Washington and Wayne counties.

The Public Assistance Grant Program is a reimbursement program paid to state, tribal and local governments, and certain private nonprofits. Under the Public Assistance program, FEMA pays 75 percent of the cost for repairs, overtime and debris removal. Typically, the remaining 25 percent is split between state and local governments at 12.5 percent each. Eligible nonprofits are responsible for the full 25 percent. The program is administered by MEMA. Eligibility and project approval is determined by FEMA.

MEMA and FEMA will schedule applicant briefings with officials of eligible entities and nonprofit organizations in the designated counties. MEMA and FEMA will provide information on the application process, as well as deadlines for submission of necessary documents to receive federal reimbursement.

The applicant briefings may be followed by face-to-face meetings in local communities between FEMA, state officials and eligible applicants.

MEMA and FEMA and their local, state and federal partners are also providing assistance to individuals affected by the storms.

26 Mississippi Counties Approved for Infrastructure Disaster Aid

RIDGELAND, Miss. – A disaster recovery center will open at noon Tuesday, April 19, and remain open through 6 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in Pearl River County to provide assistance to survivors of the severe storms and flooding that occurred from March 9-29, 2016.

Recovery centers are run jointly by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies are available in the centers to explain the various programs designed to help survivors recover.

The Pearl River County Center will be located at Manna Ministries, Inc., 120 Street A, Suite A, Picayune, MS 39466. It will be open on Tuesday from noon until 6 p.m.

Beginning Wednesday, April 20, through Saturday, April 23, the Picayune center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center will close permanently on Saturday at 6 p.m.

A nearby Forrest County center remains open to assist survivors Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Centers are closed on Sunday. The location is:

Help Remains After Coahoma County Disaster Recovery Center Closes

Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Lake Providence, East Carroll Parish, for Louisiana Survivors

BATON ROUGE, La. – A disaster recovery center will open Tuesday, April 19, in Lake Providence, East Carroll Parish, to help Louisiana flood survivors. The center is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays until further notice.

The disaster recovery center is located at the following address:

Survivors may locate other centers near them at fema.gov/disaster-recovery-centers or by calling 800-621-3362.

Representatives from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Small Business Administration, volunteer groups and other agencies are at the center to answer questions about disaster assistance and low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses. They can also help survivors apply for federal disaster assistance.

Disaster Survivor Assistance teams are canvassing many affected areas, and are able to register people for FEMA assistance if needed. Sometimes these teams will remain in certain locations convenient to the community, such as a library or mayor’s office. When residents require further assistance the teams may refer them to a disaster recovery center nearby.

It is not necessary to visit a center to register for and receive federal disaster assistance. If possible, survivors should register with FEMA before visiting a recovery center.

To register, go online to DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. Help is available in most languages and phone lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

Disaster survivors who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585 to register. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Service or require accommodations while visiting a center may call 800-621-3362. All disaster recovery centers are accessible and equipped with tools to accommodate disaster survivors who need disability-related communication aids. Each disaster recovery center has assistive technologies for people with disabilities. To arrange to have an ASL interpreter at the DRC when you visit, call 225-382-1739.

Low-interest disaster loans from the SBA are available for businesses of all sizes including landlords, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters. Disaster loans cover losses not fully compensated by insurance or other recoveries.

Baton Rouge, La. — Survivors from Ouachita and St. Tammany parishes who are rebuilding after the March severe storms and floods can receive a free consultation with hazard mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The mitigation representatives will be available at Home Depot stores in Monroe and Covington, starting on Monday, April 18 and ending on Saturday, April 23.

The mitigation specialists can answer questions about protecting homes from future disaster-related damage as well as offer tips and techniques to build hazard resistant homes. Most of the information and the free publications provided are geared for do-it-yourself work and general contractors.

Recovery topics to be covered include roof repair and rebuilding flooded homes.

The mitigation specialists will be available on Monday, April 18 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 19 through Saturday, April 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
