NORTH LITTL ROCK Federal officials today estimated more than $6 million in disaster assistance will help fund local governments’ storm recovery from this spring’s severe weather.

That funding is in addition to nearly $2 million in federal disaster assistance to date that has helped individuals, families and businesses repair property and replace essential possessions.

When disaster strikes, the first response is to ensure personal and family safety and then address the loss of property and possessions. The federal Individual Assistance program responds to these urgent needs of individuals and business owners.

Public Assistance is another essential element of disaster response. The PA program benefits everyone – neighborhoods, cities and states, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations.

PA dollars:

  • clean up the community and repair bridges
  • put water systems and utilities back in order
  • repair hospitals and emergency services
  • rebuild libraries and replace damaged books
  • rebuild schools and universities and
  • restore damaged public parks so families can enjoy them again.

PA provides a minimum of 75 percent of the cost to repair or replace disaster-damaged infrastructure.

FEMA estimates the federal share of more than $1.8 million will help reimburse local governments for the emergency work and debris removal that took place in the storm’s immediate aftermath. Other PA projects are now being developed and approved by local, state, and federal officials. The estimated cost when complete is more than $4.1 million.

“Public Assistance grants support the work that helps an entire community recover,” said FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer Nancy M. Casper. “These are federal tax dollars coming back to Arkansas to rebuild taxpayer-funded infrastructure.”

Public Assistance grant recipients can include:

  • state agencies
  • local and county governments
  • private nonprofit organizations that own or operate facilities that provide essential government-type services

Recovery officials are currently working with more than 65 applicants to develop specifications and costs for about 75 projects in the 28 counties eligible for disaster assistance.

AUSTIN, Texas – Eighteen more Texas counties are now eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster aid. Eligible applicants in Austin, Brown, Delta, DeWitt, Ellis, Gonzales, Hopkins, Jack, Jones, Orange, Red River, Robertson, San Augustine, Starr, Tarrant, Throckmorton, Waller and Wichita counties can now apply for FEMA Public Assistance (PA) reimbursement for repairs to roads and bridges, water control facilities, city- and county-owned buildings and equipment, utilities, parks and recreational facilities and other public as well as some private facilities.

Supplementary funding under the PA program goes to the state and its agencies, local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations. Under the program, FEMA obligates funds to the state for 75 percent of eligible costs, with the state and local governments sharing the remaining 25 percent of costs. The state forwards the federal funds to the eligible local governments or organizations that incurred costs.

18 More Texas Counties Eligible for FEMA Public Assistance

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The disaster recovery center in Howard County will be closed weekends starting Saturday, July 25, 2015.

The center remains open weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The toll-free Helpline, 1-800-621-3362, is still available seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time).

The center provides help to those whose homes or businesses were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding during the period of May 7 to June 15, 2015.

Representatives from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies are at the centers to explain disaster assistance programs and help survivors apply for aid.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Additional Oklahoma residents and business owners affected by severe storms, flooding, tornadoes, and straight-line winds that occurred from June 5-22 may now be eligible for state and federal assistance under the disaster declaration already approved for the state.

At the request of the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has expanded the official disaster declaration to May 5 through June 22.

The updated incident period applies to Individual Assistance for residents and business owners as well as Public Assistance for government entities and certain nonprofits.

Survivors who have registered with FEMA already do not have to apply again. Claims for damage or loss that occurred during the additional dates will be processed automatically.

Those with storm damage that occurred during the additional dates who have not yet registered with FEMA are urged to do so as soon as possible. Homeowners, renters and businesses can register online with any computer, smartphone or tablet at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone at 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362. Phone-registration hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time seven days a week. Registration with other agencies or non-profits does not count as a FEMA registration.

The deadline to register is August 26.

Additionally, homeowners, renters and businesses affected during the new Incident Period might also be eligible for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Following is a summary of key federal disaster aid programs that can be made available as needed and warranted under President Obama’s disaster declaration issued for the State of New Jersey.

Assistance for the State and Affected Local Governments Can Include as Required:

  • Payment of not less than 75 percent of the eligible costs for emergency protective measures taken to save lives and protect property and public health. AUSTIN, Texas – More Texans may be eligible for disaster assistance with news of an extension of the original incident period and the addition of another Texas county for Individual Assistance under a May 29 major disaster declaration for severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding.

INCIDENT PERIOD EXTENSION

 Applicants already registered with FEMA, who have additional damage incurred from June 20 to June 22, should call FEMA to receive an evaluation of whether they may be eligible for additional aid.

Texans who have yet to register with FEMA are encouraged to do so and should report any damage from May 4 –June 22.

Red River County joins 46 other counties designated for Individual Assistance. That assistance may include grants for homeowners and renters to help pay for rent, temporary housing and home repairs, as well as other serious disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses or funeral and burial costs.

Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also are available. SBA helps businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations, homeowners and

renters fund repairs or rebuilding efforts and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. These disaster loans cover losses not fully compensated by insurance or other recoveries and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations.

Texas Disaster Declaration Incident Period Extended and Red River County Added for Individual Assistance

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma residents who suffered damage from the severe storms, tornadoes, flooding and straight-line winds of May 5 through June 4 now have more time to register for state and federal disaster assistance. The new registration deadline is Wednesday, August 26.

The registration period normally lasts for 60 days following an official disaster declaration, but this extension gives Oklahomans an extra month to update insurance information and find other documents needed to complete or supplement their applications.

The extension comes within days of a request by Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM). The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved the request July 17.
 

“This 30-day extension will help ensure that all residents of the designated counties are given ample opportunity to register for the FEMA Individuals and Households Assistance Program,” said OEM Deputy Director and State Coordinating Officer Michelann Ooten.
Survivors may apply for state and federal assistance online with any computer, smartphone or tablet at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362. Hours to register by phone are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time seven days a week.

“We’ve extended the registration deadline for people who have not had the opportunity to register for assistance,” said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer John Long. “But even with the extra time, we urge all affected residents to register as soon as they can.”

Oklahomans Have More Time to Register for Disaster Assistance

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – Hours at the disaster recovery centers in Howard and Jefferson counties will change beginning Monday, July 20.  The centers provide help to those whose homes or businesses were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding during the period of May 7 to June 15, 2015.

Starting Monday, hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Sundays.

Representatives from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies are at the centers to explain disaster assistance programs and help survivors apply for aid.

Those seeking disaster assistance should register with FEMA before going to a disaster recovery center. Individuals and families who suffered losses as a result of the late spring storms may register online at www.disasterassistance.gov or those without access to the internet, can call FEMA’s toll-free registration number at 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice. Multilingual operators are available.

Each disaster recovery center has assistive technologies for people with disabilities. ASL interpreters are available at the DRCs by appointment by calling 870-451-9241.

Anyone who sustained damage in Crawford, Garland, Howard, Jefferson, Little River, Miller, Perry, Sebastian or Sevier counties designated for federal disaster assistance can visit any disaster recovery center.

Federal disaster assistance for individuals and families can include money for rental assistance, essential home repairs, personal property loss and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

Low-interest disaster loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA) are available to help with residential and business losses not covered by insurance. The SBA is the federal government’s primary source of money for the rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations, homeowners and renters fund repairs or rebuilding efforts and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property.
