AUSTIN, Texas – A State/FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is now open in Hays County for homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained damage as a result of the ongoing severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.

Specialists from the State of Texas, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), nongovernmental organizations and the local community are on hand to answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available to survivors.

“The recovery center will serve as a one-stop shop for folks who need one-on-one assistance,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Kevin L. Hannes. “State and federal professionals will be available to help eligible survivors get help as quickly as possible.”

Location and hours of operation

Danforth Junior High School
200 Texan Blvd.
Wimberley, TX 78676
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until further notice

Visiting with a recovery specialist is not a requirement for survivors who want disaster assistance, but the centers are an excellent way for people to get answers to their questions about disaster aid and help applying for it. Some of the services may include:

  • Guidance regarding disaster recovery
  • Clarification of any written correspondence received
  • Housing Assistance and Rental Resources information
  • Answers to questions, resolutions to problems and referrals to agencies that may provide further assistance
  • Status of applications being processed by FEMA

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the 23 designated counties can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).  Disaster assistance applicants, who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice. Flood survivors statewide can call and report their damage to give the state and FEMA a better idea of the assistance that is needed in undesignated counties.

16 Counties in Oklahoma Now Approved to Receive Federal Disaster Assistance under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program

Oklahoma City – People in Oklahoma who’ve been affected by the recent severe storms and flooding may soon see Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) teams in neighborhoods, knocking on doors.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are partnering to provide this mobile resource to help connect homeowners, business owners and faith-based and community organizations with the necessary resources to start the recovery process.

“It’s great to have DSA teams out in the communities where they can help connect the dots between survivors and assistance that may be available for them,” said State Coordinating Officer and OEM Deputy Director Michelann Ooten.

The teams offer survivors registration assistance; up-to-date information on their application status; on-the-spot needs assessment; and referrals to help fill any outstanding needs.

“These teams are here to help,” said Federal Coordinating Officer John Long. “They will all be carrying FEMA badges and may ask for some critical information to help speed your case along.”

The DSA teams may request the following information:

•    A phone number where you can be reached;
•    Your social security number;
•    Your current mailing address;
•    The address of the affected property;
•    A brief description of the damages; and
•    Insurance information including your policy number.

DSA teams are currently visiting neighborhoods and businesses in Cleveland, Grady and Oklahoma counties.

When DSA teams arrive at a home, business or any other organization, they will display official photo identification. If the photo identification is not displayed, it is important to ask to see it. This helps prevent fraudulent activities.

Additionally, survivors can apply for state and federal assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or via smartphone or web-enabled device at m.fema.gov. People may also call 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362.

Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams Visit Oklahoma Neighborhoods

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky storm survivors who have registered for disaster assistance are urged to stay in touch with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and keep their contact information current throughout the recovery process.

Kentucky Storm Survivors Urged to Stay in Touch with FEMA

FRANKFORT, Ky.  – Kentucky storm survivors have until June 30 to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for assistance and complete their Small Business Administration disaster loan application.

Survivors who suffered losses during the severe storms in April in Bath, Bourbon, Carter, Elliott, Franklin, Jefferson, Lawrence, Madison, Rowan and Scott counties who have delayed registering for any reason should apply for potential assistance that could include:

Housing Assistance that offers temporary rental assistance and money for essential home repairs to eligible survivors. FEMA’s ultimate goal is to ensure survivors’ dwellings are safe, sanitary and functional.

Other Needs Assistance is also available for disaster-related costs associated with medical, dental, funeral, personal property, transportation, moving and storage, or other necessary expenses.

No matter the degree of loss, survivors are urged to register with FEMA. They can use the following methods:

·         Online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov

  • By calling 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585, Video Relay Service 800-621-3362)
  • By smartphone or tablet at m.fema.gov

Survivors who are referred to SBA should complete their low-interest disaster loan application by June 30. Applicants are not obligated to accept a loan; however, completing it may lead to additional FEMA assistance. Survivors are encouraged to consider all sources of aid.

It is not necessary to wait for an insurance claim determination to apply for an SBA disaster loan, which may help if applicants later find they are underinsured.

Small businesses and most nonprofits with or without physical damage may apply for an economic injury disaster loan, which is a working capital loan to help with disaster-related cash flow problems.

To apply for an SBA disaster loan online use the Electronic Loan Application via SBA’s secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.  Survivors with questions about an SBA disaster loan application can also call the SBA Disaster Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 (TTY 800-877-8339) or send an email to DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov.

Disaster Recovery Center to Open in Franklin County to Help Kentucky Storm Survivors

FRANKFORT, KY – Residents and business owners who applied for federal assistance resulting from the severe storms and flooding in April will hear soon from damage inspectors.

People who suffered losses in Bath, Bourbon, Carter, Elliott, Franklin, Jefferson, Lawrence, Madison, Rowan, and Scott counties may be eligible for assistance by registering with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Following registration, FEMA usually schedules inspections within seven (7) to 10 days. An inspector first examines structural damage to a house or business, then assesses damage to appliances, such as the washer, dryer, refrigerator, and stove. The inspector also gathers information about serious needs, such as lost or damaged clothing. Homeowners should identify all known damages and tell the inspector if they have a septic system or a well.

Property owners need to show proof of ownership and occupancy. Renters need to show proof of occupancy. If insurance papers are available, residents should show them to the inspector.

Inspectors will ask applicants to show identification. At the same time, applicants should ask for identification from everyone identifying themselves as damage inspectors. All inspectors carry official photo identification.

“If an inspector is not wearing an identification card or badge, please make sure you ask to see it,” said Joe M. Girot, FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer for Kentucky.

Girot said it is also important to keep in mind that official inspectors do not charge for this service.

Those who have suffered losses as a result of the April storms, but have not yet applied for assistance are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

The fastest and easiest way to register for assistance is online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621- 3362 (FEMA) or by web-enabled mobile device at m.fema.gov.  Disaster assistance applicants who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; those who use 711 or Video Relay Service may call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. eastern, seven days a week until further notice.
