NORTH LITTLE ROCK – Joint federal/state disaster recovery centers are opening Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 in Faulkner, Lee and Sevier counties to help those whose homes or businesses were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding Dec. 26, 2015 – Jan. 22, 2016.

Representatives from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies will be at the centers to explain disaster assistance programs and help survivors apply for aid. Those visiting the centers can talk to experts on ways to prevent future disaster damage and take home free publications on mitigation topics.

Disaster Recovery Centers Open in Faulkner, Lee and Sevier Counties

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – As you read through the paperwork related to disaster recovery, the last thing you may want to hear is that you will receive another letter. However, if you registered with FEMA for assistance, you will receive a determination letter from the agency’s Individuals and Households Program.

As you review this letter, it may bring you news explaining what types of disaster assistance you will receive. It may, instead, tell you that you are ineligible for assistance or that FEMA needs more information.

Sometimes, this can be easily corrected. The difference between a “no” and a “yes” may be as simple as signing documents, furnishing insurance settlement information or fixing an error on your application.

If you have any questions about your letter or what steps you need to take, you can call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 (800-621-FEMA) or TTY 800-462-7585. If you use 711 Relay or Video Relay Services, call 800-621-3362; the toll-free lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, until further notice.

Using the latest mobile technology, DSA team members are there to help survivors register for disaster assistance; provide up-to-date information on applications; help determine ongoing needs; and make referrals to help fill any outstanding needs.

Following is a summary of key federal disaster aid programs that can be made available as needed and warranted under President Obama’s disaster declaration issued for the State of Arkansas.

OXFORD, Miss. – December storm survivors in Monroe and Prentiss counties have until Friday, Jan. 29, to visit the applicant service centers in Amory and Booneville.

JEFERSON CITY, Mo. – FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are opening Friday in Franklin County and Saturday in Jefferson County. The centers offer in-person support to individuals and businesses in any of the 33 Missouri counties included in the January 21, 2016, Missouri federal disaster declaration. The declaration covers losses caused by flooding and severe storms between December 23, 2015, and January 9, 2016.

Inspectors are contractors who will display official photo identification. If the photo identification is not displayed, it is important to ask to see it. This helps prevent fraudulent activities.

Individuals or business owners that apply for a disaster loan with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) may also be contacted by a loss verifier who will inspect the damaged property.

FEMA Representatives Visit Missouri Neighborhoods

Are you and the kids crammed into your in-laws’ one bedroom, one bath because your home was destroyed by the December storms?

It could mean an initial two months of temporary rental assistance to help pay for a clean and safe place to stay while repairs continue.

The first step is to register with FEMA by:

  • Calling 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585 for those who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362 to register.
  • Visiting DisasterAssistance.gov with a computer, tablet, iPhone, Android or other mobile device.

For longer-term rebuilding assistance, the U.S. Small Business Administration offers low-interest loans to qualified individuals to help with residential and business losses. Homeowners, renters and business owners may obtain information on SBA disaster loan applications by calling 800-659-2955

(or 800-877-8339 for the hard of hearing) or by visiting sba.gov. They may also apply for disaster loans at https://www.disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.

Both FEMA and SBA are prohibited by law from duplicating insurance benefits. But, if your insurance fell short in meeting your needs, you may be eligible for help from either or both agencies.

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
