Federal Aid Programs for the State of Mississippi Declaration

RAPID CITY, S.D. –South Dakota workers, including ag producers, have less than two weeks left to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) benefits. The deadline to apply for DUA is Wednesday, Dec. 18.

South Dakota workers who lost their jobs or whose income was affected by the severe winter storm, snow storm and flooding that occurred Oct. 3-16 can file a claim by calling the Unemployment Insurance Call Center at 605-626-3179. DUA is available to those whose employment or income have been affected by the disaster but are not eligible for state unemployment benefits, including ranchers, farmers and the self-employed.

“Bottom line, if you are self-employed and lost income due to the October blizzard, I would encourage you to call 605-626-3179 to find out if you may be eligible for disaster unemployment benefits,” said Federal Coordinating Officer, Gary Stanley.

DUA is available for individuals who live or work in Butte, Corson, Custer, Dewey, Fall River, Haakon, Harding, Jackson, Lawrence, Meade, Pennington, Perkins, Shannon and Ziebach counties as well as the Cheyenne River Reservation and the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance Deadline is Approaching – Aid may be available to producers who sustained losses in October Storm

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Colorado to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by the Royal Gorge Fire during the period of June 11-16, 2013.

Federal funding is available for Disaster Unemployment Assistance for affected individuals in Fremont County.

The President’s action makes federal funding available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the Royal Gorge Fire in Fremont County.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Thomas J. McCool has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area.  McCool said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.

President Declares Disaster for Colorado

On Tuesday, June 25, President Obama approved Alaska Governor Sean Parnell’s request for Federal Assistance in the disaster affected areas of the Alaska Gateway, Yukon Flats, Yukon Koyukuk, and Lower Yukon Regional Attendance Areas, with Copper River Regional attendance area for Public Assistance only. The Federal Disaster Declaration makes federal funds and resources available to support the recovery of these areas affected by the 2013 Spring Floods.

The Federal Assistance programs offer help to individuals and families affected by the disaster, as well as funds to assist the state, tribal, and affected local governments with infrastructure damages and costs incurred during the response and recovery from the floods.

Based on eligibility, Individual Assistance includes many different programs to help individuals and families affected by the floods including:

Federal Aid Programs for the State of Alaska Disaster Recovery

AURORA, Ill. – Federal assistance in Illinois has reached more than $82.4 million, distributed among more than 30,200 individuals and households, since a major disaster was declared in the state May 10.

The latest summary of federal assistance to individuals and households that suffered losses due to the severe storms and flooding between April 16 and May 5 includes:

  • More than $82.4 million in FEMA grants approved for individuals and households;
  • Of that amount, more than $72 million approved for housing assistance, including temporary rental assistance, home repair costs and assistance toward replacing destroyed homes;
  • More than $10 million approved to cover other essential disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses and damaged personal possessions;
  • More than 42,000 home inspections completed to confirm disaster damage;
  • More than $7.7 million in loans to homeowners, renters or business owners has been approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration; and
  • More than 2,300 visits to Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) operated jointly by FEMA and the state of Illinois.

Eleven counties in Illinois were included in the initial declaration, but on May 22, an additional
14 counties were added for individual assistance. On May 31, another eight counties were added.

Residents of 33 counties in the major disaster declaration can now register for federal assistance. The counties include Brown, Bureau, Calhoun, Clark, Cook, Crawford, DeKalb, Douglas, DuPage, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kane, Kendall, Knox, Lake, LaSalle, Livingston, Marshall, Mason, McDonough, McHenry, Peoria, Pike, Rock Island, Schuyler, Stark, Tazewell, Whiteside, Will, Winnebago and Woodford.

Public Assistance also has been approved for 24 Illinois counties. This program includes funding for debris removal, emergency protective measures and infrastructure projects such as roads and bridges. This assistance is on a cost-sharing basis with FEMA paying 75 percent with the remainder the responsibility of the state and local governments.

Hazard Mitigation teams are located at six home improvement stores throughout the area providing information on how to repair or rebuild stronger and safer to help avoid damage from future storms.

Survivors may be eligible for additional services including federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) for those who worked or were scheduled to begin work in one of the 33 counties declared for Individual Assistance. The assistance extends to self-employed individuals, farm workers and others who have lost income as a result of the storm and flooding from April 16 to May 5. Legal aid is another service available to survivors who have legal issues related to the disaster. The Young Lawyers Division of the Illinois American Bar Association provides this free service for low-income individuals and families. Federal Disaster Aid in Connecticut Following Hurricane Sandy Tops $45.4 Million

WINDSOR, Conn. — More than $45.4 million in federal disaster grants and loans has been approved for Connecticut survivors of Hurricane Sandy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today.

As of close of business Feb. 14:

  • More than 12,380 Connecticut residents in the counties of Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven and New London, and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribal Nation located within New London County have registered for federal disaster assistance;
  • More than $11,552,000 has been approved for housing assistance, including short-term rental assistance and home repair costs;
  • More than $920,000 has been approved to cover other essential disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses and lost personal possessions;
  • More than 6,322 inspections of damaged properties have been conducted statewide;
  • More than $32,189,000 in low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, businesses and private nonprofit organizations has been approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration;
  • More than $9,380 in Disaster Unemployment Assistance has been approved as a result of Sandy; and
  • More than $808,000 in Public Assistance grants has been obligated to municipalities statewide for Sandy-related expenses. Under the PA program, FEMA expects to reimburse the state, local governments and tribal nations for $52,465,131 in storm-related expenses, which represents the 75 percent federal share of such projects.

 

Additionally, 3,761 flood insurance claims totaling $135,433,203 have been paid to date, representing nearly 70 percent of total National Flood Insurance Program claims in the state of Connecticut following Hurricane Sandy.

SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private, nonprofit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts and covers the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. Federal Disaster Aid in Connecticut Following Hurricane Sandy Tops $45.4 Million

BATON ROUGE, La. State and federal recovery from Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana has hit a new milestone, topping half a billion dollars since the Aug. 29, 2012, disaster declaration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said.

The total includes more than $129.6 million in grants from FEMA’s Individual Assistance (IA) program, more than $160 million in low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and nearly $214.5 million in reimbursements to state agencies and local governments from FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) program.

“FEMA’s top priority is clear: help Louisiana’s survivors, their families, business owners and their communities get a good start on their way to recovering from Isaac,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Gerard M. Stolar of FEMA. “This money has provided a crucial boost to Louisiana as residents and communities rebuild, recover and look ahead to the future.”

IA grants include nearly $106.9 million in housing assistance and more than $22.7 million in Other Needs Assistance. Meanwhile, more than $185,000 in Disaster Unemployment Assistance has gone to workers who lost their jobs or people who are self-employed and unable to provide services because of the hurricane.

PA funds obligated so far have helped the state replenish dollars it spent to protect Louisianians before, during and after the storm and to remove tons of disaster-created debris. It also reimburses municipalities for repairs to disaster-damaged infrastructure. SBA long-term, low-interest loans enable homeowners, renters and businesses to replace, repair and rebuild their storm-damaged property.
