JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Two home improvement stores in Crawford County are teaming up with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide local residents with free information, tips, flyers and brochures to prevent and lessen damage from disasters. 

FEMA mitigation specialists will be available over the next five days to answer questions and offer home improvement tips on making homes stronger and safer against disasters. Most of the information is geared toward do-it-yourself work and general contractors.

Advisers will be available March 17-21 at the

  • Lowe’s at 760 Eagles Court, Sullivan, MO 63080
    • Hours:
      • Thursday through Saturday and Monday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
      • Sunday 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Advisers will be available March 17- 19 and March 21 at the

  • Meek’s Lumber and Hardware at 10875 N. Service Road West, Bourbon, MO 65441
    • Hours:
      • Thursday, Friday and Monday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.;
      • Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon.

Take Action Today and Be Prepared Tomorrow

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –National Preparedness Month is here and FEMA Region III encourages everyone to take action to prepare. Beginning this month, FEMA Region III will use social media to promote a new preparedness campaign around hashtag “Throwback Thursday,” but with a preparedness focus (#tbtPrep). Region III will use this hashtag to focus on past regional and national disasters to help inform and guide preparedness actions so individuals and communities are better prepared. FEMA Region III will also push “Take Action Tuesday” (#TakeActionTue) messages, which will emphasize meaningful actions to build preparedness and reduce our risk to disasters.  Thursdays we remember.  Tuesdays we take action.

This social media campaign will ensure a constant drum beat of preparedness, providing everyone with the necessary tools.  FEMA Region III encourages the public, private businesses, organizations and individuals to use both hashtags to promote preparedness and guide meaningful actions to reduce individual and community risk.

FEMA Experts Offer Ideas to Lessen Impact of Disaster Damage

NORTH LITTLE ROCK –Teams of specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will offer tips and techniques to lessen the impact of disaster-related property damage at building supply stores in four Arkansas locations beginning Monday, July 13, 2015.

The teams will be at these Lowe’s stores:

  • Jefferson County: The Pines, 2906A E. Harding Ave., Pine Bluff
  • Crawford County: 2120 Fayetteville Road, Van Buren
  • Garland County: 300 Cornerstone Blvd., Hot Springs

Teams at the Lowe’s stores will be at each store from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday; and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  The teams will not be at the store

In Howard County, FEMA specialists will be at the Bailey Discount Bldg. Supply, 880 E. Collin Raye Drive in DeQueen.  Teams will be at the store from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and on Fridays and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The teams will be at all four locations through Friday, July 24, 2015.

FEMA specialists offer “how-to” information on both retrofitting buildings to make them more resistant to wind damage and ways to elevate utilities against  flood damage. They also provide tips to clean and help prevent mold and mildew.
