Disaster Recovery Centers Open For Hurricane Hermine Survivors

TALLAHASSEE—Disaster Recovery Centers have opened in Citrus, Dixie, Levy and Leon counties to help survivors affected by Hurricane Hermine’s severe storms and flooding that severely impacted the state between Aug. 31 and Sept. 11, 2016.

Disaster Recovery Centers serve as one-stop shops for eligible storm survivors seeking one-on-one help. Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Florida Division of Emergency Management, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and various state agencies will be at the centers to answer questions.

State and FEMA officials continue to work closely with local officials in hard-hit areas to identify suitable sites for additional centers. Survivors can also locate the center by visiting the  DRC locator.  Downloading the FEMA App to their mobile device will allow survivors to:

  • Apply for disaster assistance
  • Get directions to the nearest Disaster Recovery Center
  • Find shelter locations
  • Get weather alerts
  • Subscribe to disaster safety tips

Many services available at disaster recovery centers are also available by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. Survivors with questions regarding the application or the appeals process, or who need to register for assistance, may visit online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone (voice, 711 or relay service) at 800-621-3362. (TTY users should call 800-462-7585.) The toll-free lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Multilingual operators are available.

Survivors requiring a reasonable accommodation (ASL interpreting, Braille Large Print, etc.) while visiting a disaster recovery center may call the appropriate Helpline number above to receive support.

FEMA encourages survivors to register as soon as possible. Those who may have registered with their county emergency management office, the American Red Cross or other community organizations are reminded to also register with FEMA.

Disaster assistance may include grants to help homeowners and renters pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs, personal property replacement, and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

SBA offers low-interest disaster loans for businesses of all sizes, homeowners, renters, and private non-profit organizations. SBA disaster loans may cover repairs, rebuilding, as well as the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged real estate and personal property.

DRCs close on Sundays; Trim hours

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Effective Sunday, July 17, Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in West Virginia will be closed on Sundays and begin operating weekly under new hours.

The new operating hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. All DRCs will be closed on Sundays, including this Sunday, July 17.

If you have questions outside the DRC business hours, you can call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Helpline at 800-621-3362 (voice, 711 or video relay service), or 800-462-7585 for TTY users.  You can use the Helpline to:

  • Register with FEMA.

  • Ask questions about a FEMA letter.

  • Ask about the status of your registration.You will need your nine-digit FEMA registration number and zip code.

  • Update your personal information (e.g., change of address or phone number, bank or insurance information, et al) to avoid processing delays.

  • Receive information about FEMA property inspections.

  • Ask about other federal assistance.

FEMA Rebuilding Experts to Provide Advice in Saipan

SAIPAN, CNMI – Typhoon Soudelor survivors on Saipan can learn how to build or rebuild to reduce the likelihood of damage the next time disaster strikes. Federal Emergency Management Agency Mitigation experts know how and are sharing.

FEMA Mitigation specialists are at the following location to discuss specific ways to rebuild with anyone who stops by. They will have free booklets and pamphlets with more details on how to rebuild.

Disaster Recovery Center Hours Will Change

SAIPAN, CNMI – The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Susupe will be closed on Sundays, beginning this Sunday, September 6, 2015.

The DRC will remain open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon, closed Sundays. The toll-free Helpline, 1-800-621-3362, will remain available 24 hours, seven days a week.  Reminder, the Disaster Recovery Center will be open on Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The DRC provides face-to-face assistance to survivors whose homes or businesses were affected by Typhoon Soudelor, during the period of August 1st through August 3rd.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are at the DRC to explain disaster assistance programs and help survivors apply for aid. FEMA Hazard Mitigation specialists are also on hand at the DRC to provide information and answer questions about cost-effective rebuilding and repair techniques to reduce property damage in future disasters as well as provide survivors information on the National Flood Insurance Program.

The DRC is located at the Pedro P Tenorio Multi-purpose Center in Susupe.

CORRECTION: Disaster Recovery Center Closings Wednesday and Friday

JACKSON, Miss. – The disaster recovery center in Waynesboro will be open only Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27-28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., then closed.

In Columbus, the disaster recovery center located on Stadium Road will be open Tuesday through Friday, May 27-30, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., then closed.

All six centers currently open in Mississippi will be closed Sunday and Memorial Day.

Four disaster recovery centers will remain open in Mississippi until further notice. Mississippi disaster survivors can visit any of the disaster recovery centers open in the state.
