Two Disaster Recovery Centers Close

CHICAGO – Two federal/state Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will permanently close this week. The DRC in Fulton County will close at 7 p.m. Friday, May 24. The DRC in Grundy County will close at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

It is not necessary to visit a DRC to register with FEMA. Although the centers will close, Illinois storm survivors can continue to register by phone or online through July 9.

New York disaster recovery center to remain open

NEW YORK – The disaster recovery center in Long Beach, N.Y., remains open as a full-service survivor resource that is staffed by state and federal specialists.

Hurricane Sandy survivors can visit the center at the Recreation Center and Ice Arena, 700 Magnolia Blvd., Long Beach, N.Y., 11561. The center is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Individuals may register for FEMA help online at DisasterAssistance.gov or via smartphone or tablet by going to m.fema.gov or by downloading the FEMA app.

Federal disaster assistance can include money for rent, essential home repairs, personal property losses and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

FEMA Team At Economy Supply With Tips On Smart Building

PURVIS, Miss. – An outreach team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be at Economy Supply, Hattiesburg’s hometown supply company, this week to explain techniques to reduce potential damage to homes, businesses and property from high-wind events. The team also will offer tips on rebuilding stronger and safer after the recent tornadoes, storms and flooding.

The partnership between the agency and the local company underscores FEMA’s commitment to a local approach in responding to and recovering from disasters.

“It reinforces the fact that FEMA is only one part of our nation’s emergency management team, and collectively we must meet the needs of the entire community,” said FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer Terry Quarles. “What better partner than one who has been involved with the Hattiesburg area for 72 years.”

A FEMA team is staffing a table at Economy Supply at 200 E. 2^nd St. in Hattiesburg to provide free “how-to” information about wind-resistant building methods, and guidance to help prevent damage to a business or home in the face of another natural disaster. The team will be present from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 and continuing with a Monday through Saturday schedule until further notice. 18 Disaster Recovery Centers Still Providing Service to Hurricane Sandy’s NY Survivors

NEW YORK – Staff from the State of New York, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Small Business Administration remain on hand at 18 Disaster Recovery Centers throughout New York to provide face-to-face assistance to Hurricane Sandy survivors.

The recovery centers, which will remain open until further notice, are one-stop shops for homeowners, renters, business owners and other eligible survivors to get assistance as quickly as possible. Translation services are available for survivors who don’t speak English.

Survivors can learn what help is available, ask questions, and apply for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA at any center.

Other reasons for survivors to visit a recovery center:

If you registered with FEMA and haven’t heard anything
If you registered with FEMA and are awaiting an insurance settlement and have questions or aren’t sure what to do next
If you received the recertification form for continuing temporary rental assistance and have questions or need help completing it

Manhattan Disaster Recovery Center Opens Saturday

NEW YORK – The state of New York and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will open a new Disaster Recovery Center in Manhattan at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, to provide

The center will be located at Southbridge Towers, Store No. 10, 66 Frankfort St., New York,

NY 10038. It will be convenient not only for Manhattan residents, but also for storm survivors who live in other boroughs or counties and work in Manhattan.

Normal operational hours for the Disaster Recovery Center are:

Holiday hours for the center are:

NEW YORK – The State of New York and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are altering the weekend schedules of Disaster Recovery Centers throughout New York to reflect the fact that most information needs of Hurricane Sandy survivors are being met.

WINDSOR, Conn. – Outreach teams from FEMA will be at The Home Depot stores in East Haven, Fairfield and Orange this weekend to explain techniques that may reduce potential damage to homes, businesses and property from future storms and flooding.

Mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will offer “how-to” information for retrofitting buildings and elevating utilities. Specialists can also provide cleanup tips for removing mold and mildew from a storm-damaged home.

FEMA teams will be at the following locations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, and Sunday, Dec. 16:

Connecticut Disaster Recovery Centers’ Hours Change, New Haven DRC to Close

WINDSOR, Conn. – Hours of operation for the FEMA-State Disaster Recovery Centers in Connecticut have changed and the center at Gateway Community College, Long Wharf Campus, New Haven, will close Saturday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m.

The deadline to register is Dec. 31. Registering for disaster assistance with other agencies or organizations does not register survivors for FEMA disaster assistance. Having FEMA flood insurance does not register policyholders for disaster assistance; flood insurance claims are handled separately.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is the federal government’s primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and a private nonprofit organization fund repairs or rebuilding efforts and covers the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. Specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are at the Disaster Recovery Centers to answer questions, check application status, provide information about rebuilding to lower the risk of damage from future floods, and offer referrals to other programs.

Also at the Recovery Centers are representatives of the U.S. Small Business Administration to assist both individuals and businesses with applications for low interest disaster recovery loans.

If possible, survivors should register with FEMA before visiting a Disaster Recovery Center. To register, go online to www.DisasterAssistance.gov or to m.fema.gov if using a smartphone or call 800-621-FEMA (3362), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Those who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have a speech disability may use TTY 800-462-7585.

Bank account and routing number (for direct deposit of assistance funds)

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for medical and dental expenses, funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.

SBA disaster loan information and application forms may be obtained by calling the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 (800-877-8339 for people with speech or hearing disabilities) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET or by sending an e-mail to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Applications can also be downloaded from www.sba.gov or completed on-line at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/.
