AURORA, Ill.  – FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) crews will travel to McDonough and Mason counties to meet with survivors of the April 16 – May 5 flooding to answer questions and help them register for FEMA assistance.

DSA crew members will answer questions on registration, hand out flyers in several languages, assist those with damages to register for FEMA assistance and provide status updates to those who have registered.  DSA Crew members, who carry federal identification, also will offer residents the opportunity to use a tablet computer to register, or, if asked, enter the data on behalf of the applicant.

FEMA mitigation specialists also will be available to provide information on how to repair or rebuild homes to limit future storm or flood damage.

FEMA’s Specialists Help Macomb and Mason County Survivors Register

AUSTIN, Texas – The state/FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in West, Texas will be closed Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27. The center will reopen Tuesday, May 28 at 8 a.m. 

“The DRC will be closed this Sunday and Monday in honor of the men and women who have paid the ultimate price to secure our freedom,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Kevin L. Hannes of FEMA. “If residents have questions or need assistance during that time, we encourage them to call our FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362.”

“It is very important that survivors keep us up to date of any changes in their contact information. This includes their address or any telephone number changes or updates relating to their insurance settlements,” Hannes said.

TRENTON, N.J.—Wednesday, May 1 was the last day to register for FEMA disaster assistance.While registration has closed, FEMA remains active in helping New Jersey recover from Superstorm Sandy.

FEMA is available to help survivors, local governments, volunteer agencies and other interested parties continue the state’s recovery.

Applicants can stay in touch with FEMA through the Helpline, online at DisasterAssistance.gov, or at m.fema.gov on a smartphone or other web-enabled mobile devices.

For answers to disaster assistance questions, Superstorm Sandy survivors can call FEMA’s toll-free Helpline at 800-621-3362. Individuals who use TTY can call 800-462-7585; FEMA phone lines are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week; multilingual operators are available.

By calling 800-621-3362, applicants can:

  • Check the status of an application.
  • Get answers to other questions they might have about their application.
  • Find out if FEMA needs more information and provide it.
  • Receive information on the home inspection process.
  • Get answers to any question regarding insurance and its bearing on FEMA assistance.
  • Update insurance information.
  • Add or delete a person designated to speak for the applicant.
  • Learn how to appeal a FEMA application decision.

Survivors also can also visit one of the SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers located in Brick, Jersey City, Mays Landing, Ocean City, Toms River and Union Beach. The centers are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.

While Registration Has Closed, FEMA Remains Active In Helping New Jersey Recover

NEW YORK – All Disaster Recovery Centers in New York will stop offering service on Sundays beginning Feb. 3, 2013. Hurricane Sandy survivors in New York can still receive assistance Monday through Saturday at any recovery center.

The State of New York and the Federal Emergency Management Agency closely monitor visitor traffic at all New York Disaster Recovery Centers and revise hours of operation accordingly. Traffic at the recovery centers has slowed on Sundays. So far, more than 145,000 Hurricane Sandy survivors have visited recovery centers in New York.

In addition, the recovery center located in the Sheepshead Bay Club, 3076 Emmons Ave., Brooklyn, NY, 11235, will close early, at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. The center will open at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4.

The recovery center at the American Legion, 209 Cross Bay Blvd., Broad Channel, NY 11693, will open at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.

The two centers’ normal operating hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Survivors who need help may still visit any of the other 17 centers that remain open throughout New York. To find the nearest center, the following options are available: Text DRC and a Zip Code to 43362 (4FEMA), and a text message will be sent back with the address. Also, the Disaster Recovery Center locator is available online at www.FEMA.gov/disaster-recovery-centers.

New York Disaster Recovery Centers to end service on Sundays

NEW YORK – As the Jan. 28, 2013 deadline to register for FEMA assistance approaches in New York, recovery officials want to make sure Hurricane Sandy survivors know that they may be able to use Temporary Rental Assistance funds to help pay for a security deposit.

If a landlord requires a security deposit, you can use up to one month of FEMA rent money to cover it and you will not have to return it at the end of the lease. If you already paid a security deposit with your own money, FEMA will not reimburse it. However, if you need more help with rent, you can show the security deposit receipt to support your request for additional assistance.

To receive additional temporary rental assistance, you must complete the Continuing Need form with a copy of the lease and all receipts for rent and security deposits, and mail it to the address printed on the form. If you don’t have the form, contact FEMA’s toll-free Helpline at 800-621-3362.

Families in hotel or motel rooms who are preparing to move into an apartment may use FEMA rent money for security deposits and rent. This money may not be used to pay for telephone or television service or utilities.

Hurricane Sandy survivors in New York have until midnight EST on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 to register for federal disaster assistance, which can include money for rent, essential home repairs, personal property losses and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

Less than Two Weeks left for Rhode Islanders to Seek Aid for Sandy Losses

WINDSOR, Conn. — A U.S. Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Outreach Center will replace the FEMA-state Disaster Recovery Center at the former Simon Lake Elementary School, 65 Devonshire Road, Milford, CT, 06460.

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center’s final hours will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 21, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22.

FEMA will still be available to help residents recover from Sandy. The FEMA helpline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 800-621-3362, to register for assistance, ask questions about an application or update contact information so FEMA knows how to reach you. For TTY, call 800-462-7585.

The SBA center will open in the same location at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24.  Hours for the SBA Center are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Homeowners, business owners and renters who had damage from Hurricane Sandy in one of the Connecticut counties designated for Individual Assistance should register for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

If an applicant receives an application for a low-interest disaster loan from SBA as part of the registration package from FEMA, it is important this application be completed and returned. No survivor is required to take out an SBA loan, but completion of the SBA application may make the applicant eligible for further FEMA assistance.

Survivors can register online anytime day or night at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or with a smartphone or other Web-enabled device at m.fema.gov. Survivors can also register or ask questions by phone anytime by calling FEMA at 800-621-3362. The TTY number is 800-462-7585. Multilingual operators are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Registering for disaster assistance with other agencies or organizations does not register survivors for FEMA disaster assistance. Having FEMA flood insurance does not register policyholders for disaster assistance; flood insurance claims are handled separately.
