OKLAHOMA CITY – Homeowners, renters and business owners in 12 more Oklahoma counties affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding starting on May 5 through June 22 can now apply for state and federal disaster assistance. Those counties include Adair, Cherokee, Coal, Delaware, Garvin, Hughes, Lincoln, Logan, Love, Murray, Ottawa and Pontotoc, which now brings the total to 45.

Individual Assistance was extended to those counties after a review of on-going damage assessments by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Disaster help for eligible applicants may include grants for rental assistance or temporary housing, home repairs and serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance. The latter might include help with medical, dental, funeral, repair or replacement of personal property including vehicles, and moving and storage expenses.

Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration may be available to businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations and homeowners and renters for losses not fully compensated by insurance or other sources and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations.

Survivors in all 45 designated counties (Adair, Atoka, Beckham, Bryan, Caddo, Canadian, Carter, Cherokee, Choctaw, Cleveland, Coal, Comanche, Cotton, Delaware, Garvin, Grady, Hughes, Jefferson, Johnston, Kiowa, Latimer, Le Flore, Lincoln, Logan, Love, Marshall, Mayes, McClain, McCurtain, McIntosh, Murray, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Ottawa, Pittsburg, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, Pushmataha, Rogers, Seminole, Stephens, Tillman, Tulsa and Wagoner) who sustained losses or damage from storms that occurred between May 5 and June 22 are urged to register with FEMA as soon as possible.  Having contacted any non-FEMA organization or agency does not count as a registration with FEMA.

The deadline for registering with FEMA is August 26.

Disaster Assistance for Oklahoma Storms Expands to Include 12 More Counties

SANTA FE – Just weeks after receiving a federal declaration, and a subsequent amendment only days ago adding more counties for July 27-August 5 flooding, a second presidential declaration has been approved, this time providing federal assistance for flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Depression Odile between September 15-26.

The new declaration makes Public Assistance funding available to eligible state agencies, tribal governments, certain nonprofits, community ditch associations and other local government entities in Colfax, Eddy, Lincoln, Lea, Otero, Santa Fe, San Miguel and Sierra counties. 

Under the Public Assistance program, federal grants are reimbursed to eligible applicants for emergency protective measures, debris removal, and the repairing of public infrastructure, including roads, bridges and public utilities. On October 6, a federal declaration was approved for Guadalupe, Rio Arriba, and San Miguel Counties, and the Pueblo of Acoma.  On October 24, Lincoln, Otero, and Sandoval Counties, and the Santa Clara Pueblo were added to the original declaration.

“The flooding between July and September was devastating for many of our communities,” said State Coordinating Officer Anita Statman. “We are pleased that now the two federal declarations will bring much needed funding to all of these hard-hit areas.”

“This new declaration, along with current recovery operations shows FEMA’s commitment to provide funding to eligible entities in designated counties and pueblos,” said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Nancy Casper. “We are going to be moving through the recovery process as quickly as possible to bring the funds to these impacted locations as soon as possible.”

FEMA Approves a Second Declaration for New Mexico. This Time for September Flooding

CHICAGO, IL – You’ve cleaned up and started making the necessary repairs from last month’s storms and flooding. Now the bills are coming due.

Your insurance may cover some of those costs, but if you haven’t registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), you may be missing out on additional assistance you need to recover. Until you register for assistance, FEMA has no way of knowing who you are, where you are, or what you need.

  • Calling your insurance agent does not register you with FEMA.
  • Contacting county or municipal agencies does not register you with FEMA.
  • Receiving assistance from volunteer agencies does not register you with FEMA.

The only way to determine whether you’re eligible for federal disaster assistance is to register with FEMA by phone or online, or by visiting a Disaster Recovery Center. FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams are also registering applicants for assistance in neighborhoods throughout the declared disaster area.

DENTON, Texas – More than $1 million was recently awarded to the state of New Mexico by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for debris removal in Lincoln County in the aftermath of last summer’s flooding.

The FEMA funding covers the hauling away of debris and the clearing of roads in order to allow for public access, the safety of the population and the protection of property, as well as direct administrative costs.

“The removal of debris is a critical step in the recovery process after a disaster,” said FEMA Region 6 Administrator Tony Robinson. “We are proud to support our state and local partners in New Mexico, reimbursing them for the work they have done to rebuild and repair communities after last year’s flooding.”

FEMA’s contribution, made possible by a Public Assistance grant, represents a 75 percent federal cost share. FEMA awards funding for projects directly to the state of New Mexico; the state then forwards the grant to the eligible applicant.

FEMA Awards More Than $1 Million to New Mexico for Flooding Cleanup

CHARLESTON, Wv. – Less than one week remains for West Virginia residents to register for disaster assistance to help with losses caused by the late-June/early-July derecho.  The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is urging everyone in the 20 affected counties to apply by Monday, November 19.

There are two ways to begin the application process. Residents may call FEMA’s toll-free registration number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for those with speech or hearing impairment 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST. Residents may also register online at www.disasterassistance.gov.

Monday, Nov. 19 is the last day to apply for assistance for those affected by the straight-line storms of late-June/early-July in the following disaster-designated counties: Boone, Cabell, Clay, Fayette, Greenbrier, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Roane, Tyler, Webster, and Wood.

STORM AID TO SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI COUNTIES EXPANDED

CLINTON, MISS. More than two dozen southern Mississippi counties will receive additional types of reimbursement for Hurricane Isaac storm recovery.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency can reimburse 75 percent of the eligible cost to repair road systems and bridges, water control facilities, public buildings and contents, public utilities, parks, recreational and other key public facilities in the following counties:

Adams, Amite, Claiborne, Copiah, Covington, Franklin, George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marion, Newton, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Smith, Stone, Walthall, Wayne and Wilkinson counties are eligible for repair money.

FEMA previously agreed to reimburse much of the cost of debris removal and emergency protective measures in the following counties in Mississippi:

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – State and federal officials have announced that residents of two more counties in the state are now eligible to receive federal assistance to help affected individuals, families and businesses recover from losses sustained in the March 15-31 flooding.

Help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is now available in Lincoln and Mingo counties. Disaster survivors in these counties who suffered losses during the flooding may apply for temporary housing assistance and housing repair, among several other benefits.

Residents of Lincoln County who suffered losses associated with the February 29-March 5 tornadoes and flooding must reapply to FEMA if they suffered losses directly from the March 15-31 flooding.

“The way to get started is to immediately register with FEMA,” said Charleston-based Federal Coordinating Officer Deanne Criswell. “You must register to find out if you are eligible for assistance. Having alerted or spoken to local authorities doesn’t get you registered with FEMA.”

Homeowners, renters and businesses should apply for disaster assistance as soon as possible by calling the FEMA Hotline at 1-800-621- 3362 or TTY at 1-800-462-7585. Multilingual assistance is available. This toll-free line is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time seven days a week until further notice. Other West Virginia counties that have been similarly designated are Harrison, Logan, Marion, Preston, Taylor and Wayne.
