BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana governments and certain private nonprofits affected by August’s severe storms and floods must submit their Request for Public Assistance (RPA) by Saturday, Oct. 15, for FEMA to consider them for Public Assistance (PA). 

FEMA’s PA program may assist eligible applicants with disaster-related expenses such as debris removal, managing the immediate response, and repairing or rebuilding facilities, buildings, roads and bridges.

City, parish and state government entities in the following parishes are eligible to submit RPAs: Acadia, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Vermilion, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.

Private nonprofits that provide critical services—such as education, law enforcement, emergency services, healthcare and utilities—may also submit RPAs.

Organizations that provide non-critical, essential services must also apply for a low-interest disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in addition to submitting an RPA. FEMA may assist with expenses the SBA loan does not cover.

Governments and private nonprofits that sustained disaster-related costs and want to seek funding must first register at sam.gov to participate. They may find RPA forms online at louisianapa.com/site/resources.cfm.

Louisiana: Request for Public Assistance Deadline Approaches

BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana homeowners and renters who have registered for disaster assistance with FEMA following August storms and flooding are encouraged to stay in touch as the application is processed. The deadline for applying is Oct. 13.

Housing help, home repairs, and various other types of aid may be available to individuals who qualify with damage or loss from severe storms and flooding beginning August 11, 2016, and ending August 31, 2016. Federal funding may be available to affected individuals in Acadia, Ascension, Avoyelles, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. Landry, T. James, St. Martin, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Vermilion, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.

Once you have registered, you can contact FEMA to check the status of your application or ask questions about the federal disaster assistance process. If you change your address or phone number, you should update that information with FEMA. Missing or erroneous information could delay scheduling a home inspection or receiving assistance.

Homeowners and renters may update their information the following ways:

  • by going online to DisasterAssistance.gov;
  • by calling 800-621-3362. Persons who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585. Applicants who use 711 or Video Relay Service may also call 800-621-3362. The toll-free numbers are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Multilingual operators are available.
  • by talking face-to-face with a specialist at a disaster recovery center. Find the closest one at fema.gov/disaster-recovery-centers or by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362.
  • by downloading the FEMA mobile app.

When updating your information, you should have on hand the nine-digit number you received when you registered. This number is on all correspondence you receive from FEMA and is a key identifier in tracking assistance requests.

Your FEMA Registration is Important – Remember to Keep it Updated

PURVIS, Miss. – Two additional counties have been designated for disaster assistance to households and businesses as part of Mississippi’s federal disaster declaration, according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  The latest counties are Greene and Perry, bringing the total number of counties to seven that have been designated eligible for disaster assistance.

Counties previously designated are Forrest, Jefferson Davis, Lamar, Marion and Wayne.

The first step in recovering from the recent tornadoes, storms and flooding is to register, which is a simple process. There are several ways:

  • Online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by mobile device at m.fema.gov any time day or night.
  • By phone or video relay at 800-621-FEMA (3362) daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. Help is available in many languages.
  • By TTY at 800-462-7585.
  • C-Spire Wireless customers can register by calling #362.

Homeowners and renters can register for federal disaster assistance that may include:

  • Temporary housing.
  • Home repairs.
  • Other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other assistance programs.
  • Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration that may cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

People in the newly designated counties who have already registered for federal disaster assistance do not need to do so again. If they have any questions about their applications for disaster assistance, they should call 800-621-3362.

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
