SACRAMENTO – The Calaveras County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in San Andreas is opening Monday September 28 at noon, to help survivors impacted by the Butte Fire. Regular hours will begin Tuesday September 29.  The DRCs are operated by the California Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in partnership with the county and local agencies.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, State of California, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies are among those represented to explain assistance programs and help survivors register.

Survivors with losses are encouraged to register for assistance before going to the disaster recovery center by calling 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362 to register. Online registration is also available at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by using a web enabled mobile device at m.fema.gov.  Businesses and residents can go to www.sba.gov/disaster or call SBA’s Disaster Assistance Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 (Deaf or hard of hearing may call 800-877-8339).

Disaster Recovery Support Services Resume Following Tropical Storm Goni

SAIPAN – Now that Tropical Storm Goni and the follow-on monsoonal rains begin to subside in the Saipan area, the following disaster recovery support services will resume on Monday, August 17:

  • FEMA Housing Inspections. Registered survivors will be contacted by a FEMA inspector to schedule an appointment for an inspection; you do not need to contact FEMA to set up an inspection. If you have been displaced and need transportation to and from the housing inspection, you can contact the Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority at 670-237-8000 to schedule transportation.
  • The joint Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will reopen on Monday, Aug. 17 at 8 a.m.

Beach Rd, Susupe, Saipan MP 96950, Northern Mariana Islands

Hours of operation: Monday-Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

After registering online or by telephone, survivors can access “one-stop shop” service at the DRC.  While visiting a DRC is not required, survivors can receive assistance with additional registration needs such as case inquiries and updates.  Subject matter experts from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available at the DRC.

Survivors are encouraged to apply for assistance before coming to the DRC by calling 800-621- 3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services can call 800- 621-3362 to register. Disaster Recovery Support Services Resume Following Tropical Storm Goni

SAIPAN, CNMI – Tropical Storm Goni is expected to impact the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas on Sunday evening.  FEMA encourages the public to make final preparations such as:

  • Build a Kit
    • Stock up on supplies such as: non-perishable food; water; batteries for battery-powered AM/FM radios and flashlights; first aid kit; cash; and gasoline.
  • Make a Plan
    • Discuss with your family how you will communicate with each other after a storm when phone and internet might be down.
  • Stay Informed
    • Monitor local radio stations for the latest updates
    • Follow the guidance of the government regarding sheltering and evacuations

Public safety is the number one priority for both the CNMI government and FEMA.  Therefore, the joint Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Susupe will be temporarily closing beginning at 1 p.m. today.

The DRC will reopen when the CNMI government sets Typhoon Condition of Readiness IV, steady state, and verifies that conditions are safe for the community to return to the center.

Typhoon Soudelor survivors do not need to visit a DRC to register with FEMA.  Individuals can register by phone at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for survivors with hearing disabilities.  Online registration is also available 24/7 at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

Disaster Recovery Center Temporarily Closing for Public Safety in Preparation of Tropical Storm Goni

SAIPAN, CNMI – The government of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI), the American Red Cross (ARC) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced an expansion of enhanced resource assistance for Saipan residents affected by Typhoon Soudelor. Using FEMA supplies, the ARC, which has already provided assistance to some 3,000 residents, will make the aid available.

Residents already registered with the ARC and are considered to have the greatest need will be processed first, said the ARC’s Operations Director, Denise Everhart.

ARC has a list of more than 3,000 individuals who have called into the chapter looking for assistance and is calling those with greatest need to do one-on-one casework.  ARC will then supply Client assistance Cards with some money for fuel, phone, and laundry as well as tarps, water, buckets, hygiene supplies, food and other supplies.  This will be continued, until the list is complete.

If there are limiting factors, where people cannot get to the designated ARC Chapter, located at 1 Airport Road, please call the ARC at 670-234-3459, and the ARC will work with FEMA and CNMI to accommodate those individuals on a case-by-case basis.

“Working through the CNMI Government and the American Red Cross is the best and fastest way to get the basic life sustaining supplies into the hands of the residents of Saipan that need them most,” said FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer, Steve DeBlasio.

“These supplies will go a long way in allowing the government of CNMI and the rest of our federal and private sector partners to create solutions to problems.” DeBlasio also thanked the US Navy and the US Marine Corps for their assistance in supporting the humanitarian mission on Saipan, and praised the resilience and patience of the citizens of the CNMI.

Additional supplies to what FEMA already had on the ground in CNMI were transported from Guam on the USS Ashland last Saturday. That cargo contained generators of various sizes, as well as large amounts of food, drinking water, tents, and vital heavy equipment needed to move the larger generators. The USS Ashland is expected to off-load Guam Power Authority heavy equipment on Saipan this morning.This equipment will help to expedite the restoration of electrical infrastructure here in Saipan.

“The residents of Saipan have been resilient, patient, and extremely hospitable under very trying and austere circumstances,” DeBlasio said. “They deserve our thanks and our help.”

DeBlasio also encouraged disaster survivors on Saipan to continue to register for FEMA assistance by calling 1-800-621 FEMA (3362), adding that more than 2,500 households had already done so.

Tropical Storm Iselle Disaster Assistance Update

HONOLULU – Three months after President Barack Obama approved supplemental federal aid to help local government agencies and eligible non-profit organizations recover from Tropical Storm Iselle, state and federal disaster recovery employees have:

  • Conducted a Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment;

  • Held four Applicant Briefings on Hawaii Island, Maui, and Oahu;

  • Received requests for FEMA public assistance from16 applicants who were impacted during Tropical Storm Iselle, which affected the Hawaiian Islands Aug. 7-9, 2014;

  • Processed and gained approval for 42 projects ranging from repair and replacement of damaged public facilities, debris removal, and actions taken for emergency protective measures prior to Iselle’s landfall;

  • Conducted four meetings with state and local government and nonprofit organizations eligible to apply for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). The purpose of the HMGP is to eliminate or reduce long-term risk to life and property from future hazards.

Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), formerly State Civil Defense, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) continue to work together on recovery from Tropical Storm Iselle.
