FEMA Offers Free Repair, Rebuild Information Sessions at Local Stores

CHARLESTON, W. Va. — As West Virginians repair or rebuild their homes damaged by last month’s storms, floods, landslides and mudslides, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and local hardware and home improvement stores have teamed up to provide free information, tips and literature on making homes stronger and safer.

FEMA mitigation specialists will be on hand at in-store information centers, in four area locations, through July 13, to answer questions and offer home improvement tips and proven methods to prevent and lessen damage from future disasters. Most of the information is geared for do-it-yourself work and general contractors.

West Virginians who have questions about their flood insurance policies and coverage should contact the National Flood Insurance Program call center at 800-621-3362 (Option 2) between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. (ET) Monday through Friday. Specialists can help service claims, provide general information regarding policies, and offer technical assistance to aid in recovery.

Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Opens

CHARLESTON, W.v. ­­­­– The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center will be opening to assist survivors affected by the West Virginia Flooding. Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) are one-stop shops for eligible storm survivors to provide one-on-one, face-to-face help. The location is:

Individuals do not have to visit a Disaster Recovery Center to register with FEMA.

Louisiana Disaster Survivors: You Owe It to Yourselves to Register by the June 13 Deadline

BATON ROUGE, La. – The people of Louisiana have had a rough time. Almost everyone knows someone who is still getting their life back on track after the March 8 through April 8 floods. You may be one yourself.

You owe it to yourself to see if you qualify for help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency before the deadline to register expires Monday, June 13.

Don’t miss out. If you live in one of the 36 designated parishes and had disaster related damage or loss, here’s how you can find out what may be available. Be sure to do it by June 13:

  • Call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. The phone conversation will take about 20 minutes if you have the following information available:
  • Your Social Security number
  • Your current and pre-disaster address
  • A telephone number where you can be contacted
  • Insurance information
  • Total household annual income
  • A description of your losses caused by the disaster

BATON ROUGE, La. – The disaster recovery center in Monroe (Ouachita Parish) will close on Friday, June 10 at 2 p.m., and transition to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) beginning Monday, June 13, at 8 a.m.

Help Remains for Louisiana Disaster Survivors after Disaster Recovery Center Closes in Webster Parish

Tangipahoa Disaster Recovery Center in Hammond Will Be Closed on Saturday

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Disaster Recovery Center in Hammond (Tangipahoa Parish) will be closed this Saturday, June 4 but will be open next week, beginning Monday, June 6. Hours are 8 a.m. through 6 p.m., Monday through Friday until further notice.

Residents can register for disaster assistance or ask questions by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711/VRS can call 800-621-3362. Lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice. Residents also can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or www.fema.gov/disaster/4263. Call the helpline to:

  • Ask questions about FEMA determination letters.
  • Learn how to appeal FEMA’s determination. All applicants have the right to appeal.
  • Inquire about the status of a registration.
  • Provide change of address, telephone and bank account numbers and insurance information to avoid disaster assistance processing delays.
  • Receive information about FEMA home inspections.
  • Get other questions answered about federal disaster assistance.

FEMA advises applicants to have their nine-digit FEMA registration number on hand when they call. They also will be asked to verify their identity if they want access to their information.
