RIDGELAND, Miss.  – The disaster recovery centers operated jointly by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are closed, but help is still available for Mississippians affected by the March floods.

The FEMA helpline can assist with appeals, answer questions, provide the status of applications and discuss the documents needed to move an application forward.

The FEMA helpline number is 800-621-3362 (voice, 711 or video relay service). TTY users can call 800-462-7585. The toll-free lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Multilingual operators are available.

Disaster survivors who registered via DisasterAssistance.gov may access their account and provide additional information to FEMA. For others, documents and appeal letters may be faxed to FEMA at 800-827-8112.

FEMA disaster survivor assistance teams are actively monitoring disaster survivor needs in Bolivar, Coahoma, Forrest, George, Panola, Perry, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tunica and Washington counties.

Disaster Recovery Center Opens for Flood Survivors in Coahoma County

OXFORD, Miss. – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency encourage survivors of the December storms, tornadoes and flooding in Mississippi to keep their recovery process on track by calling the FEMA helpline. The deadline to register with FEMA was March 4, but survivors can still call to check on the status of their applications, appeal decisions, update contact information, or ask questions about the process.

  • Nearly $2.6 million in MEMA/FEMA Individual Assistance, including:

Mississippi Disaster Survivors: Stay in Touch With FEMA to Keep Recovery Going

OKLAHOMA CITY – Additional Oklahoma residents and business owners affected by severe storms, flooding, tornadoes, and straight-line winds that occurred from June 5-22 may now be eligible for state and federal assistance under the disaster declaration already approved for the state.

At the request of the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has expanded the official disaster declaration to May 5 through June 22.

The updated incident period applies to Individual Assistance for residents and business owners as well as Public Assistance for government entities and certain nonprofits.

Survivors who have registered with FEMA already do not have to apply again. Claims for damage or loss that occurred during the additional dates will be processed automatically.

Those with storm damage that occurred during the additional dates who have not yet registered with FEMA are urged to do so as soon as possible. Homeowners, renters and businesses can register online with any computer, smartphone or tablet at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone at 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362. Phone-registration hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time seven days a week. Registration with other agencies or non-profits does not count as a FEMA registration.

The deadline to register is August 26.

Additionally, homeowners, renters and businesses affected during the new Incident Period might also be eligible for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

FEMA Extends Incident Period in Oklahoma to June 22

OKLAHOMA CITY – Determining eligibility for grants from the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) may be as easy as registering for assistance, but sometimes more information is needed before the process can be completed.

Disaster survivors may receive a letter stating they’re ineligible. But that may not mean they won’t receive assistance. Read the letter carefully. It could mean more information is required to make a determination.

There are several common reasons for receiving a letter of ineligibility. The most common reason is not enough information has been provided.

Other reasons may be:

  • Missing documentation is needed to complete the evaluation process.
  • There is insufficient storm-related damage, or
  • Insurance coverage adequately covered storm-related losses.

While it is not mandatory to qualify for assistance, one way to expedite the process of determining eligibility is to visit a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). Survivors can take any missing documents into the nearest DRC and have questions answered face-to-face with FEMA specialists.

There have been 3,184 visitors to DRCs in Oklahoma since the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding of May 5 through June 4.
