Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Liberty County for Texans

AUSTIN, Texas – A State/FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is now open in Liberty County for homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained damage as a result of the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding from Oct. 22 to Oct. 31.

Specialists from the State of Texas, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), nongovernmental organizations and the local community are on hand to answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available to survivors.

All Disaster Recovery Centers are accessible and equipped to accommodate disaster survivors who need disability-related communication aids.

The DRC’s location and normal operating hours are as follows:

Liberty County Community Center

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday

Visiting a DRC is not required to register for FEMA assistance. Survivors can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone (voice, 711 or relay service) at 800-621-3362. (TTY users should call 800-462-7585.) The toll-free lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week except Jan. 1.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three disaster recovery centers will close Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m.:

  • North Strand Park and Recreation Center at 120 Highway 57 South in Little River

  • Seacoast Church at 301 E. 5th North St. in Summerville

  • Colleton County Recreation Center at 280 Recreation Lane in Walterboro

Applicants in Little River, Summerville and Walterboro may still visit other recovery centers to ask disaster assistance questions. They can locate their closest center by visiting asd.fema.gov/inter/locator/home.htm.

Preliminary Flood Maps in Tarrant County, Texas Ready for Public View

DENTON, Texas –Residents of Arlington, Garland and the rest of Tarrant County have new preliminary flood maps to review.

These maps help homeowners and businesses decide about purchasing flood insurance. By knowing the risks, individuals and community leaders can make informed decisions about building and development.  
    
“We’ve worked with our state and local partners to bring this critical information to the county. We hope that everyone reviews the maps to understand the flood risks involved,” said FEMA Region 6 Administrator Tony Robinson. “Having the community as an active partner in the flood mapping process is very important.”

Survivors Urged to Stay in Touch with FEMA

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The deadline for Calaveras and Lake county wildfire survivors to register with FEMA has passed, but various forms of disaster assistance remain available. Survivors who registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency are urged to stay in touch with the agency.

“Even though the DRCs are closed, FEMA remains in California to work with the state and local governments to provide assistance with recovery,” said Tim Scranton, Federal Coordinating Official for this disaster. “FEMA will remain as long as needed.”

Charles Rabamad, the Deputy State Coordinating Officer added: “Recovery is ongoing, all this work could not be done without our federal, state and local partnerships. Cal OES continues to support and assist these communities in the rebuilding and redeveloping efforts.”

Applicants can track their claims and should notify FEMA of changes to their mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and if they receive insurance settlements or discover additional damages.

At the DLOCs disaster loan applications, started before Nov. 23, can be finalized. The two facilities will remain open until further notice.

FEMA Mitigation Advisers Offer Guidance to Flood Survivors in Richland County

COLUMBIA, S.C. – As South Carolinians rebuild and repair after the recent historic floods, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and local home improvement stores have teamed up to provide free information, tips and literature on making homes stronger and safer.

FEMA mitigation specialists will be on hand in Richland County to answer questions and offer home improvement tips to prevent and lessen damage from future disasters. Most of the information is geared towards do-it-yourself work and general contractors.

Advisers will be available at two locations through Nov. 17. Hours and locations are as follows:

  • Home Depot located at 5200 Fernandina Road in Columbia (Thursday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Monday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • Lowe’s located at 7420 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia (Thursday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Monday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)

  • Colleton County
    • Colleton County Recreation Center, 280 Recreation Lane, Walterboro
  • Georgetown County
    • Potato Bed Ferry Community Center, 531 Big Dam Swamp Drive, Andrews
    • Beck Recreation Center, 2030 W. Church St., Georgetown.
  • Horry County
    • Horry County Government and Justice Center, 1301 Second Ave., Conway
  • Newberry County
    • Newberry County Sheriff’s Emergency Services Building, 540 Wilson Road, Newberry
  • Orangeburg County
    • Gaillard Park Rural Development Center, 848 Sandspoint St., Eutawville

All other centers are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice.

Veterans Day Closings

All centers are open on Veterans Day, except for ones in public libraries. The following are closed on Veterans Day:

  • Lexington County
    • Irmo Library at 6251 St. Andrews Road in Columbia
    • Cayce West Columbia Library at 1500 Augusta Road in West Columbia
  • Richland County        
    • Richland Main Library at 1431 Assembly St. in Columbia
    • Richland Library Eastover at 608 Main St. in Eastover
    • Richland Library Southeast at 7421 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia

Representatives from the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies are at the centers to answer questions about disaster assistance and low-interest loans. They can also help survivors apply for aid.

It is not necessary to visit a center to register for and receive state/federal disaster assistance. If possible, survivors should register with FEMA before visiting a recovery center.

To register, go online to DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. Help is available in most languages and phone lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

Disaster survivors who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585 to register. Those who use 711 or VRS (Video Relay Service) or require accommodations while visiting a center may call 800-621-3362. All disaster recovery centers are accessible and equipped with tools to accommodate disaster survivors who need disability-related communication aids.
