Former Conroe (Montgomery County) Disaster Recovery Center now a Disaster Loan Outreach Center

AUSTIN, Texas—FEMA’s disaster recovery center at Conroe is now operating as a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loan outreach center.

The disaster loan outreach center opened Monday at 9 a.m. and will operate through Wednesday, Aug. 10.

SBA customer service representatives will be available to meet with business owners and residents to answer questions, explain SBA’s disaster loan program and close their approved disaster loans. Business owners and residents can meet with SBA representatives on the days and times indicated. No appointment is necessary.

Applicants for disaster loans may apply online using the electronic loan application via SBA’s secure website at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.

Disaster loan information and application forms are also available from SBA’s Customer Service Center by calling 800-659-2955 or emailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Missing or erroneous information could result in delays in getting a home inspection or receiving assistance.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The three remaining disaster recovery centers in South Carolina will close Friday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m.:

  • Williamsburg Recreation Center, 2084 Thurgood Marshall Highway, Kingstree
  • Central Carolina Technical College, 853 Broad St., Sumter

Many services available at disaster recovery centers are also available by calling the FEMA helpline. Survivors of Oct. 1-23 storms and flooding can get help by calling 800-621-3362 or TTY 800-462-7585; those who use 711/VRS can call 800-621-3362. Lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

Survivors can use the helpline to:

  • Ask questions about FEMA decision letters.
  • Learn how to appeal FEMA decision letters. All applicants may appeal.
  • Inquire about the status of a registration.
  • Provide change of address, telephone and bank account numbers and insurance information to avoid disaster assistance processing delays.
  • Receive information about FEMA home inspections.
  • Get other questions answered about federal disaster assistance.

FEMA Seeks Local Help to Assist in Disaster Recovery Through Job Fair

Saipan, CNMI – FEMA has joined forces with the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands’ Department of Labor (DOL) to recruit individuals to work in temporary, full-time positions available locally with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The DOL, in conjunction with the FEMA local hire program, will host a job fair at the Northern Marianas College on Sept. 14-17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room A8. The purpose of this fair is to give local residents who have no Internet connectivity the opportunity to apply for the temporary jobs with FEMA.

The CNMI Transit Authority will provide free transportation to and from the Northern Marianas College during the event. Staff from the DOL will be on hand to assist with resume writing, along with a FEMA representative to help make sure resumes are routed to the correct location. Transportation pick-up locations will be:

•           In the As Matuis/San Roque area, Welcome Market

•           In the Tanapag area, IMart

•           In the Garapan area, Paseo de Marianas

•           In the Capitol Hill area, Sarah Market

•           In all three Kagman areas, Kagman Market

•           In the San Antonio area, Basketball Court

FEMA routinely offers employment to residents in disaster areas to support the local economy and provide jobs to those who may have lost employment due to the disaster.

Applicant Registration Site Opens in Breathitt County

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Survivors of July’s storms can register for federal disaster aid at a temporary site in Breathitt County. The site will help people who were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides occurring July 11 through July 20.

It will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT until further notice.

The site, staffed by a Disaster Survivor Assistance team, will offer registration assistance. Applicants can also check the status of their applications or get referrals to other resources. Specialists will also be available to provide guidance and answer questions on Individual Assistance.

Applicants who cannot come to the Applicant Registration Site and wish to update their contact information or ask questions concerning Federal Emergency Management Agency correspondence can call FEMA’s toll-free helpline at 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585, Video Relay Service 800-621-3362) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) or go online to DisasterAssistance.gov.

The deadline for survivors to register for federal assistance is Oct. 12.

The Small Business Administration will also be on hand to discuss its disaster loan program.

Applicant Registration Site Opens in Breathitt County

Louisiana Receives More Than $1.1 Million in FEMA Preparedness Grants

DENTON, Texas — Fire Departments in Louisiana and Louisiana State University and A&M College have been awarded more than $1.1 million in preparedness grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The grants cover everything from firefighting equipment to training including:

•    Firefighting equipment for Cullen Fire Protection District #6 – $50,972;
•    Firefighting equipment such as a hose, nozzles and ropes for the Hammond Fire Department – $46,364;
•    Firefighting equipment for the Lone Pine Fire Protection District in St. Landry – $56,949;
•    A pumper vehicle, vehicle extrication equipment and other firefighting equipment for the Milton Volunteer Fire Department in Youngsville – $326,877;
•    Two manufactured burn trailers and other equipment for Louisiana State University and A&M College in Baton Rouge – $360,870; and
•    600 each of boots, gloves and hoods for the New Orleans Fire Department – $278,728.

The federal grants are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. The primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders get critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. Disaster Survivors Have Options to Access Federal Disaster Assistance

WARREN, Mich. – Storm survivors in Michigan counties affected by the August floods and storms have plenty of options when it comes to registering for federal assistance and learning about programs to help them recover.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) specialists are staffing four Disaster Recovery Centers, numerous recovery support sites and several informational areas at home improvement stores in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.

At the Disaster Recovery Centers, survivors can meet face-to-face with specialists from various federal agencies and other organizations who can answer questions about disaster assistance programs. They can register for FEMA disaster assistance, check the status of their application and learn about other programs.

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) customer service representatives at the centers can explain low-interest loans available for homeowners, renters, businesses and certain private nonprofit organizations. FEMA mitigation specialists can offer free rebuilding advice. They have publications and information to help homeowners, renters and business owners protect their properties against damaging winds and floods, which may reduce the risk of damage from potential future hazards.

Disaster survivors also can visit recovery support sites located throughout the three counties to register for disaster assistance, learn the status of their existing applications and receive other disaster assistance information. FEMA’s disaster survivor assistance teams staff the sites. The best way to find a location since the sites are temporary and open on different days and at different times is to visit FEMA’s disaster-specific web page at www.fema.gov/disaster/4195.

Anyone can go to certain home improvement big-box stores to get publications and information on how to rebuild to reduce the risk from future storms. FEMA’s disaster survivor assistance specialists at these stores also can help disaster survivors register for federal disaster assistance.
