AUSTIN, Texas – Teams of specialists from FEMA will offer tips and techniques to lessen the impact of disaster-related property damage at three Orange County Building Materials locations in Jasper and Orange Counties.

Booklets are available in both English and Spanish on protecting your home from flood damage and other natural disasters. Several Disaster Recovery Centers Will No Longer Be Open Sundays, But Help Remains for Louisiana Disaster Survivors

BATON ROUGE, La – All but eight disaster recovery centers will not be open on Sundays beginning April 17, but help will still be available for Louisiana disaster survivors every day.

The following centers will remain open seven days a week:

Digital Preliminary Flood Maps for Georgia Coast Ready for Public Viewing

ATLANTA, Ga. –Newly revised preliminary digital flood insurance rate maps for the Georgia coastal areas of Camden, Effingham, Glynn, and Long Counties will be available for residents to review at four public open houses the week of April 18-22. Flood maps show the extent to which areas are at risk for flooding, and when they become effective, updated maps will be used to help determine flood insurance and building requirements.

The open house provides residents of these coastal areas the opportunity to see the preliminary maps, learn about their risk of flooding, and ask questions about what the new maps will mean for their property. Residents can meet one-on-one with a variety of specialists who will be available to talk about flood insurance, engineering, building permits and more.

The new preliminary maps were released through a partnership among the counties, their municipalities, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. They are more precise than older maps because better flood hazard and risk data make the maps more accurate. The ultimate goal is protecting property owners and the community from the risks associated with flooding. Over time, flood risks change due to construction and development, environmental changes, floodplains widen or shift, and other factors. Flood maps are updated periodically to reflect these changes.

Home and business owners, renters, realtors, mortgage lenders, surveyors and insurance agents are encouraged to attend the open house. All who attend can meet with specialists to ask questions and learn more about flood risk and hazard mitigation within their communities.

By law, federally regulated or insured mortgage lenders require flood insurance on buildings that are located in areas at high risk of flooding. Standard homeowners’, business owners’, and renters’ insurance policies typically don’t cover flood damage, so flood insurance is an important consideration for everyone. Baton Rouge, La. — Survivors from Ouachita, Tangipahoa and Beauregard parishes who are rebuilding after the March severe storms and floods can receive a free consultation with hazard mitigation advisers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The free mitigation stations will be open on a walk-in basis at Lowe’s in Monroe, Ouachita Parish; Lowe’s in Hammond, Tangipahoa Parish; and Stine Lumber-Building in DeRidder, Beauregard Parish, starting Friday, April 8, 2016.

The advisers can answer questions about protecting homes from future disaster-related damage, as well as offer tips and techniques to build hazard-resistant homes. Most of the information and the free publications provided are geared for do-it-yourself work and general contractors.

Recovery topics to be covered include roof repair, rebuilding flooded homes, and mold and mildew cleanup and prevention. The store locations are as follows:

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – Joint federal/state disaster recovery centers are open in Carroll and Crawford counties to help those whose homes or businesses were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding Dec. 26, 2015 – Jan. 22, 2016.

Public-Private Partnership Conference held in New Orleans

WASHINGTON – This week, the Fifth Annual Building Resilience through Public-Private Partnerships Conference was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. The conference was hosted this year by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and brought together innovators from the private sector, nonprofits, and state, local, and tribal governments to pursue strategies to build a more resilient nation.

Each year, the conference attracts hundreds of participants who look to promote innovation in furthering ongoing partnerships and resiliency. Key topics of discussion included: Executive Perspectives on Investing in Business Resilience; Harnessing Technology to Positively Disrupt the Status Quo; The Smart City of 2025: Innovations for a Resilient Future; and action planning sessions to include Addressing Cyber Threats Now and into the Future and Disaster Collaboration Simulation Exercise.

The conference was held in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the National Protection and Programs Directorate and Private Sector Office, and North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command and in collaboration with the American Logistics Aid Network, the American Red Cross, Business Forward, Business Executives for National Security, National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Corporate Citizenship Center.

“The private sector is an essential member of the team,” said FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate. “The more resilient businesses are, the quicker they can recover and provide critical goods and services to help their communities rebuild. Fostering strong working relationships between the private sector, emergency management, and the whole community is great business for everyone, especially the disaster survivor.”

With this public-private partnership approach, conference partners committed to taking action and promoting information sharing to facilitate greater understanding of the whole community roles and better leverage existing programs to promote meaningful outcomes to drive resiliency.

Conference participants took away concrete action plans and a collection of shared resources that they can implement immediately to further their organization’s resilience and nurture new partnerships. The development of a public-private sector national framework for information sharing and a public-private sector model to facilitate successful partnerships at all levels are an example of the commitments made. FEMA and its Private Sector Division are committed to leading the charge on continued identification of solutions to coordination gaps and strengthen the understanding of roles between the public and private sectors to build national resilience and successful public-private partnerships.

Public-Private Partnership Conference held in New Orleans

Holly Hill Disaster Recovery Center Transitions to Disaster Loan Outreach Center

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Holly Hill disaster recovery center will transition to a disaster loan outreach center beginning Monday, Dec. 14 to accommodate the needs of South Carolina flood survivors.

Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available to meet with homeowners, renters and business owners who had disaster-related damage to answer questions, explain SBA’s disaster loan program, help them complete their applications and close approved disaster loans.

The center is located at:

Holly Hill Government Building, Suite B at 8423 Old State Road in Holly Hill

The center is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Survivors with questions about an SBA disaster loan application can also call the SBA Disaster Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or TTY 800-877-8339 or email DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov.

Many services available at disaster recovery centers are also available by calling the FEMA helpline. Applicants can get help by calling 800-621-3362 or TTY 800-462-7585; those who use 711/VRS can call 800-621-3362. Lines are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
